We Honour The Bark
Who We Are
Luna Hounds was born inside the heart of a South African woman - Robynne Oosthuizen(Wasas) who has dedicated her life to serving on the frontlines of the war against our wildlife, which has led to learning the incredible tool of how to use animals to protect animals and nature.
The name Luna Hounds comes from many nights spent under billions of stars in the absolute wilds of Africa with only the beautiful orchestra of pack hounds howling and singing to the moon.
Through a better understanding of our K9s instincts and genetics, Luna Hounds has been successful in training K9s for many different professions and personal lives in a much shorter, kinder, and impactful way than what everyone believes to be "dog training".
We work with our K9s drives; hunting, prey, search, tracking, and pack drives which allows our K9s always to find the work rewarding and enjoyable.
With our K9's specialized training to suit each situation, we can utilize them in many different aspects of wildlife and farm protection and better reinforce that last line of defense.
Projects
Our passion and mission is to make a difference in this world for those that have no voice, no rights, and no protection. Please help us keep our boots and paws on the ground by supporting one of our Projects.
“If you are not filled with overflowing love, compassion and goodwill for all creatures living wild in nature, You will never know true happiness.”
― Paul Oxton
High Speed Tracking Hounds
Having had numerous successful arrests and countless rhino and elephant saved Luna Hounds aims to bring the highly specialized and revolutionary Anti-Poaching method of High-Speed Tracking Hounds to reserves across Africa.
It takes hundreds of hours of dedicated training, development, and operation to produce Packs that have the skills and abilities to become successful at the end of their tracks.
Please help us by supporting our K9 Unit so that we can continue to produce these incredible 4 legged heroes.
Snare Removal
Every day hundreds of animals die a slow, painful, and often pointless death at the hands of bush meat poachers who set up traps/snares in the form of cable or wire noose that are strategically set up throughout the bush. These snares are incredibly difficult to see and are often left unchecked for years on end.
We use our tracking K9s to detect where these poachers set up their traps and remove them so that no animal will be left to suffer.
K9 Conservation Volunteer Program
There are very few things in this world that feel as amazing as when you have had a truly positive impact on someone's or something's life, their safety, and their survival. We welcome students from all over the world to join us in our mission, learn how to train some of the world's best Anti-Poaching K9s, and immerse themselves in spectacular African Bush.
Detection
We provide the Anti-Poaching Teams around Africa with highly specialized Illegal Wildlife Product Detection K9s that are able to sniff out products such as Rhino Horn, Ivory and much more in vehicles, buildings, and open areas.
We currently have an incredibly exciting Detection program aimed at supporting farmers and exporters across the world.

Working Dogs Facts
#1
At the start of this war on our wildlife particularly our Black and White Rhino of South Africa, Field Rangers only had a 1-3% success rate at disrupting or arresting suspected Rhino Poachers. Since the introduction of working K9's such a detection and tracking dogs that has lept to an incredible 70-80% success rate.
We need more highly trained and specialized working K9 teams on the ground. The facts speak for themselves.
#2
Free Running Hounds are the newest addition to South Africa's Anti-Poaching Methods. The idea originated in Texas to capture escaped prisoners but had also been tested unsuccessfully by the South African Army. The concept has proven to be one of the most ground breaking methods of arresting and disrupting poaching criminals.
These hounds run free of human contact on the scent trail of the suspected poachers and move at over 40km/hour which means they can easily do over 15-20km in one run. Our hounds are currently under development to produce packs that a slighly smaller so they can fit in smaller helicopters and are able to track through high levels of contamination that you would normally find on large farms and reserves.
